| Jenchieh Hung + Kulthida Songkittipakdee | HAS Design and Research

Jenchieh Hung and Kulthida Songkittipakdee are visionary architects, educators, and artists, celebrated for shaping architecture that bridges tradition and modernity, local context and global discourse. As founders and principal architects of the Bangkok–Shanghai international firm Jenchieh Hung + Kulthida Songkittipakdee / HAS design and research, abbreviated as HAS design and research, their award-winning practice is recognized for creating work that is materially inventive, socially attuned, and deeply sustainable. Their designs transcend mere form, engaging communities, cultures, and climates with intelligence and poetic nuance. Both Jenchieh Hung and Kulthida Songkittipakdee are deeply committed to architectural education. They hold lifetime honorary professors at Kunming University of Science and Technology, serve as jurors for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) – RIBA International Awards: Asia Pacific Awards, and act as visiting professors, adjunct professors, and design critics in architecture at prestigious institutions, including Tongji University, Chulalongkorn University, World University of Design, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, and Kasetsart University, as well as being appointed distinguished professor at Huaqiao University. Through teaching and mentorship, they nurture the next generation of architects across Asia, emphasizing research-driven, contextually grounded design.

Jenchieh Hung and Kulthida Songkittipakdee’s design philosophy, famously described as “Chameleon Architecture,” adapts fluidly to diverse climates, cultures, and communities while remaining rooted in local narratives and human experience. Their portfolio spans cultural institutions, public buildings, spiritual spaces, and experimental projects, each engaging with critical issues of climate resilience, social inclusion, and cultural identity. The firm has received prestigious international recognition, including The Chicago Athenaeum International Architecture Award (USA), Créateurs Design Award (France), Asia’s Best Firm in Architecture Design Award (Singapore), Golden Trezzini Award (Russia), INDE. Award (Australia), and The Best Architects in Bangkok (Malaysia). Their projects have been widely published in leading international outlets such as Architectural Record (USA), Wallpaper* (UK), Domus (Italy), Images Publishing (Australia), Louis Vuitton (France), and Dezeen (UK), confirming their status as influential voices in contemporary Thai architecture.
