Studio Schwitalla is founded by architect Max Schwitalla in Berlin in 2012. He studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart and received his Master’s degree from the ETH Zurich. Prior to Studio Schwitalla, he has worked for OMA and Graft, and co-founded HENN StudioB. The studio focuses on experimental works intersecting architecture and urban design, conceiving of neighborhoods as three dimensional structures in response to future urban mobility. This leads to transformable urban environments that re-negotiate spaces for mobility and immobility, with human needs at the heart of the experimentation. Studio Schwitalla has collaborated with mobility experts such as Schindler Elevators and Audi as well as other research institutions. He has been invited to act as instructor or critic at leading academic institutions such as TU Berlin, ETH Zurich, TU Dresden, AA in London, and the Aedes Network Campus Berlin. The works of Studio Schwitalla have been awarded with the Klaus Humpert Preis (city and density - visions for the city of tomorrow), Offlines (visionary projects for transportation by rope), eVolo 06 (skyscraper competition), and Tate in Space (Tate Gallery, London).
