พาวิเลียนจัดแสดงงานประกวดแบบนานาชาติ ปี 2561 ตอบสนองต่อโจทย์ของการประกวดแบบประจำปีภายใต้หัวข้อ VEX : Agitated Vernacular โดยการนำวัสดุบังคับคือไม้ ไปผ่านกระบวนการแปลงร่าง ลอกเปลือก ขัดสีฉวีวรรณให้ขาว เผาไฟให้ดำ แล้วนำมาประกอบร่าง ผูกยึด ซ้อนตั้ง และตัดคว้านออก ด้วยกระบวนการทำมือให้เป็นโครงสร้างทรงลูกบาศก์คู่แฝดขาวดำ สำหรับจัดแสดงผลงานประกวด ทั้งในรูปแบบสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์และดิจิตัล เศษไม้ที่เหลือจากการตัดคว้าน นำมาบรรจุในกล่องเกเบียนทรงลูกบาศก์สำหรับใช้เป็นเก้าอี้ที่นั่งในบริเวณพื้นที่จัดแสดง

The International Design Competition Pavilion embraces this year’s competition theme, “VEX : Agitated Vernacular,” by subjecting wood, the assigned material, to abrasive processes of peeling, sanding, charring or burning. The vexed wood is then hand-crafted: rough-sawn, stacked, tied, to form two black and white cubic geometries that host the exhibition materials. Leftover wood from the processes is contained in multiple cubic gabion baskets for area seating. Conventional fabrication and vernacular construction techniques merge with contemporary ones to become the new vernacular craft that responds to current socioeconomic, cultural, climatic, and technological parameters.
