คุณเมธา บุนนาค เป็นสถาปนิกไทยผู้ที่ได้รับการยอมรับอย่างกว้างขวางจากผลงานการออกแบบรีสอร์ททั้งในและนอกประเทศ คุณเมธาประยุกต์ใช้ความสนใจของตนในด้านการอนุรักษ์มรดกทางวัฒนธรรมและความเป็นท้องถิ่นสอดแทรกอยู่ในแนวคิดและรูปลักษณ์ของผลงานต่างๆ ที่สร้างสรรค์อย่างมีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว แต่ยังคงอยู่บนพื้นฐานของความร่วมสมัย ผลงานการออกแบบภายใต้บริษัท Bunnag Architects International Consultants มีจุดเด่นในการถ่ายทอดบรรยากาศและประสบการณ์ให้กับผู้ใช้โครงการ มีการใส่ใจในรายละเอียดโดยเฉพาะลำดับของการเล่าเรื่องผ่านทางสถาปัตยกรรม เพื่อให้เกิดอารมณ์ความรู้สึกสงบผ่อนคลายหรือเป็นที่จดจำ บางครั้งธรรมชาติทำหน้าที่เป็นเครื่องมือในการสร้างสุนทรียภาพและความเป็นถิ่นที่เหล่านี้ หรือแม้แต่ถูกกำหนดให้เป็นจุดหมายตาอย่างตั้งใจ คุณเมธา บุนนาค ศึกษาสถาปัตยกรรมในระดับปริญญาตรีจากมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร ก่อนจะศึกษาต่อด้านความคิดสถาปัตยกรรม จาก University of Manitoba ประเทศแคนาดา และด้านการอนุรักษ์เมืองจาก Harvard University ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา นอกจากนี้ ยังมีประสบการณ์เป็นอาจารย์สอนสถาปัตยกรรมที่ University of Hong Kong และ the National University of Singapore รวมทั้งทำงานในสำนักงานสถาปนิกหลายแห่งในประเทศแคนาดา ฮ่องกง และสิงคโปร์ จากนั้นจึงกลับมายังประเทศไทยและก่อตั้งสำนักงานออกแบบของตนเอง ในปี พ.ศ. 2533 ผลงานการออกแบบรีสอร์ทของคุณเมธาและบริษัท Bunnag Architects International Consultants เป็นที่กล่าวขวัญถึงและได้รับรางวัลมากมายจากในและต่างประเทศ อาทิ Best Hotel Design from the Indonesian Institute of Architects จากผลงาน Novotel Bukittinggi, West Sumatra ในปี 2539 รางวัลอนุรักษ์สถาปัตยกรรมจากสมาคมสถาปนิกสยาม จากผลงาน Four Seasons Resort เชียงใหม่ ในปี 2541 และ รางวัล Design for Asia Award 2009 -DFA Merit Recognition ในประเภท Hospitality and Leisure จาก Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), Hong Kong จากผลงาน The Barai at Hyatt Regency Hua Hin ในปี 2552 คุณเมธา บุนาค ได้รับการยกย่องเชิดชูเกียรติเป็นศิลปินแห่งชาติ สาขาทัศนศิลป์ (สถาปัตยกรรม) ในปี 2554
Mathar 'Lek' Bunnag is a leading Thai architect whose specialization in resort hotel design is famous for provoking feelings and delivering experiences in architecture. His intricate works are motivated by the desire to safeguard cultural heritage and local environment, yet embrace the beauty and comfort of contemporary design. Often, basic natural elements, for instance the stars, light and shadow, are brought into play, framed or interpreted in his projects, resulting in unique artistic expression, sequence and sense of place. Mathar Bunnag graduated with a B.Arch. from Silpakorn University. He continued graduate studies in architectural ideology at the University of Manitoba, Canada, and urban conservation at Harvard University, USA. He taught at the University of Hong Kong and the National University of Singapore, and worked for numerous architectural design firms in Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore during 1970s-1980s. His works in Thailand and foreign countries under Bunnag Architects International Consultants in which he established in 1990 have received awards and recognition internationally, including Best Hotel Design from the Indonesian Institute of Architects (Novotel Bukittinggi, West Sumatra) in 1996, Conservation Award from the Association of Siamese Architects (the Four Seasons Resort Chiangmai) in 1998, and Design for Asia Award 2009 -DFA Merit Recognition, Hospitality and Leisure from Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), Hong Kong (the Barai at Hyatt Regency Hua Hin) in 2009. Mathar Bunnag is praised as the Thailand’s National Artist in Visual Arts (Architecture) in 2011.
