STATEMENT

SATI : WISDOM : PROMPT

ON LAYING THE FOUNDATIONS FOR DESIGN KNOWLEDGE IN TIMES OF GLOBAL DISRUPTION

Our world is in a state of profound transformation. Economic fragmentation, geopolitical uncertainty, emergent modes of work, and the pervasive influence of artificial intelligence are redefining the ways we create, inhabit, and interact with the built environment.

AI is no longer a peripheral instrument; it shapes decision-making, drives productivity, and influences the organization of society. The pressing question is not merely how we adapt, but how we engage with these forces critically, ethically, and constructively.

Although many sectors are recalibrating, significant segments of society remain in a state of interpretive transition—seeking temporal, spatial, and epistemological grounding to comprehend, evaluate, and respond to the shifting landscape. This is not resistance but reflexivity—a necessary condition for meaningful adaptation.

Within the Thai context, and across the global sphere of design and architecture, we must ask:

  • How might our professional and disciplinary communities respond to these transformations?

  • How can we cultivate knowledge that is both adaptive and anticipatory?

  • What intellectual and professional foundations are we laying for the future of practice?

  • How can wisdom and design thinking remain anchored in local realities while engaging with global disruptions?

As the Association of Siamese Architects approaches its centennial, this moment calls for more than commemoration. It invites a collective reimagining of our intellectual and professional foundations, advancing knowledge that inspires future generations while addressing the complex uncertainties of our time.
