SANAA is a Tokyo-based architectural and design practice founded in 1995 by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, the 2010 recipients of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the highest honor in architecture. SANAA's works often appear in simplistic yet intriguing form that addresses issues in contemporary architecture. Their architecture often strives to generate different design approaches based on doubts and experiments on space, form, elements and materials. SANAA’s well-known works include the Christian Dior Building in Omotesando, Toledo Museum of Art's Glass Pavilion in Toledo, Ohio, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the 2009 Serpentine Pavilion in London, Rolex Learning Center, Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, and the Louvre Lens in France. SANAA has been awarded the Golden Lion for the most significant work in the exhibition Metamorph in the 2004 Venice Biennale, the 46th Mainichi Shinbun Arts Award (Architecture Category) in 2005, and the Schock Prize in the Visual Arts in 2005. In addition to their collaborations as SANAA, Sejima and Nishizawa also explore groundbreaking design solutions through their individual practices, especially in housing designs. Kazuyo Sejima began working as an architect at Toyo Ito's office and later established her own studio Kazuyo Sejima & Associates in 1987. Her own works include House in a Plum Grove and Inujima Art House project. Ryue Nishizawa founded his own practice Office of Ryue Nishizawa in 1997, in which significant works include Weekend house, Moriyama House, Teshima Art Museum, and Garden and House.
