Suriya Umpansiritatana has surged to become a talk of the town’s name in Thailand architecture scene in the past five years. This is due his visionary taking on the design of a rural Buddhist monastery, school and museum, which received an award for one of the best architecture design by the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage in 2008. His design approach is principally based on environmental consciousness and vernacular architecture with a new treat on local material and spatial configuration. His design approach also emphasizes the lightness of structure and spacious plan in order to create the calmness sense guided by the Buddhist philosophy.
