Hua Li เป็นสถาปนิกผู้ก่อตั้งสำนักงาน Trace Architecture Office (TAO) ในกรุงปักกิ่ง TAO ประกาศแนวทางการทำงานสถาปัตยกรรมที่ให้ความสำคัญกับร่องรอยของเวลาและกระบวนการประมวลข้อมูลอันซับซ้อน สถาปัตยกรรมจึงเป็นการบันทึกเวลาและธรรมชาติ ปรัชญาการสร้างสรรค์ของ TAO กระทำผ่านกับ 4 ประเด็นหลัก คือที่ว่างอันทรงพลัง ศิลปะของโครงสร้างและวัสดุ ความงามจากความรู้สึกหรือความคิด และกาลเวลา ประเด็นเหล่านี้ถูกศึกษาในแต่ละงานด้วยแนวทางที่ต่างกันไปตามบริบทของโครงการ พร้อมๆกับการค้นหาแนวทางสมดุลในการจัดการข้อมูลที่เป็นคู่ตรงข้าม เช่น อดีต-ปัจจุบัน-อนาคต ท้องถิ่น-สากล การแยกส่วน-การร่วมกลุ่ม เพื่อสร้างสัมผัสแห่งสถานที่ (sense of place) ให้กับสถาปัตยกรรม Hua Li ศึกษาสถาปัตยกรรมจาก Tsinghua University และ Yale University จากนั้นจึงทำงานอยู่ใน New York ระยะหนึ่ง เขาย้ายกลับมายังประเทศจีนในปี 2003 และก่อตั้ง Universal Architecture Studio (UAS) ในกรุงปักกิ่ง ต่อมาในปี 2009 Hua Li จึงก่อตั้ง TAO และปัจจุบันยังเป็นอาจารย์สอนสถาปัตยกรรมให้กับ Central Academy of Fine Arts ผลงานของ TAO เป็นที่รู้จักและได้รับรางวัลทั้งระดับประเทศและระดับนานาชาติ ไม่ว่าจะเป็น Museum of Handcraft Paper ที่ได้รับรางวัลมากมายเช่น UED Museum Architecture Award ในปี 2011 และ China Architecture Media Awards - Finalist for Best Architecture Award ในปี 2012 และโครงการ XiaoQuan Ethnic Elementary School ที่ได้รับรางวัล Design for Asia (DFA) Award - Merit Recognition และรางวัล “Good Design Is Good Business” China Awards ในปี 2012
Hua Li is a founder and design principal of Trace Architecture Office (TAO) in Beijing. Hinted by the practice’s name, “trace” and process suggest TAO’s approach to architecture. TAO’s work embraces issues of space, tectonics, feeling/thinking and time, which are explored through a subtle balance of the extremes appropriate to each project’s specific context. Hua Li graduated from Tsinghua University and Yale University respectively. He worked in New York before he returned to China, founded Universal Architecture Studio (UAS) in Beijing and eventually established TAO in 2009. He has also taught at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and been a visiting critic at Tsinghua University since 2004. Hua Li and TAO have widely received recognition in China and internationally. TAO’s works have recently won several awards, including Museum of Handcraft Paper (2011 UED Museum Architecture Award, 2012 China Architecture Media Awards - Finalist for Best Architecture Award, 2012 WA Award, and 2012 “Good Design Is Good Business” China Awards) and XiaoQuan Ethnic Elementary School (2012 Design for Asia (DFA) Award - Merit Recognition and 2012 “Good Design Is Good Business” China Awards).
